Botanical Name: Pisum sativum
An excellent variety for the home gardener – one of our best cool season crops. A very hardy variety which crops well even in exposed areas. Requires very little attention. Choose a sunny position on well prepared, deeply dug, rich soil. Hardy annual.
We hope you enjoy these pea seeds, just another great example of vegetable seeds from Mr Fothergill’s!
Plant Height: 70cm
How To Grow
Prepare flat trenches 15cm (6in) wide and 5cm (2in) deep.
Plant seeds into dark, damp soil in a zig-zag fashion along the middle of the trench allowing 5cm (2in) between each seed. Fill trench with soil and firm down gently. Rows should be spaced 45cm (18in) apart and approx. 2m (6.5ft) long.
Protect from birds with netting or black cotton during the early stages of growth. We advise using sticks or twigs to support the crop and this will make picking easier and improve yields.
Seedlings emerge 7-10 days.
Once germinated water regularly.
When To Plant
Autumn through to Spring.
Harvest
12-16 weeks
Sow
Spring, Autumn, Winter
Important Note
Additional fertiliser is not required as legumes produce their own nitrogen.
Regular picking of pods will prolong yields.
